Tour of Hammond-Harwood house anyone?

I had a comment from Hammond-Harwood House in Annapolis on my blog about our Annapolis tea, offering a tour.

Is anyone interested - and can we find a weekend to dress up and go?

Yeap, another event!

Holiday Faire is the shopping event of the SCA season. There is always a ton of vendors. No matter what time period you normally do, you will find something (they sell fabric!).

It's $15 for non SCA members to get in but it is great for Christmas shopping.

This event is on Nov 19th. Site: Prince William Fairgrounds. 10624 Dumfries Rd, Manassas, VA 20112. Site opens 7am, closes 9pm.

Christmas Tea

Green Springs Gardens
Friday, December 9 and Sunday, December 11
Carols by Candlelight
Call 703-941-7987 to register 4:30-6pm $27/adult $18/kids 8-12 (Ages 8 to adult.) Sip tea by candlelight as we trace the origins of Christmas music. Hear pieces that reflect the spirit of the season from colonial times on and learn how the musical tradition of Christmas began. Then raise your voices in rousing holiday cheer!

Would anyone like to go to the December 9th one? Colonial dress would be amusing but I think anything from 1770's up to the Turn of the 20th Century would be good. The house is small so take that into consideration.

Ladies and Gents, a challenge!

As found on the Maryland Renaissance Festival homepage:

Closing out our 35th season, on October 22nd & 23rd we encourage all patrons to wear their Tudor finery and participate in a "Dress Your Best" weekend. Ambassadors of the festival will be roaming the village, presenting prizes to patrons in the best Tudor costumes. Many prizes will be awarded to both children and adults. And you never know when you'll be spotted and what prizes you may receive. Huzzah!

This is traditionally the weekend of Wrong -where Stormtroopers and Steampunk are the norm. My guess is they are trying to change that. Anyone feel like coming with me on Saturday in full Renaissance dress (I'm thinking my Princess Elizabeth recreation right now) and seeing if we can get all the prizes? ;-)

We can meet up around 10 am, outside the main gate. I'm thinking towards the tree line near the fence/ticket booth area where there is an announcement looking area.

Harper's Ferry

I *love* going to Harper's Ferry in the fall. It's a great historical town that has gorgeous fall color when the leaves are turning. I looked up some fall events around the time the leaves should be at their peak and...

October 29-30 – “Under Fire: The Battle of Harpers
Ferry 1862”
Time: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Bolivar Heights Battlefield
Join the members of the Baltimore Light Artillery as they
demonstrate the might and intimidation of field artillery.
Firing demonstrations at 1,2,3 p.m.

November 5-6 - "Roeder's Tavern Cider Making 1860"
Time: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Lower Town
Join living history rangers and volunteers for cider-making
demonstration and fall food preservation.

Anyone feel like dress up al la 1860 and checking these out? I'm slightly more inclined to the Nov 5th Cider Making because CIDER yum! but both events sound interesting.

Steampunk Halloween

From [info]dcareasteam:
The time has come for us all to dine elegantly amidst the dead, as we are inclined to do in style and grace..

Cemetery Potluck
Sunday, October 30, 2011
2PM - 5PM
Rock Creek Cemetery
Rock Creek Church Road NW and Webster Street, NW
Washington DC
Suggested Dress: Victorian, Edwardian, Jazz-Age, Rococo, Regency, Imperial, Gothic Victorian, New Romantic, Semi-Formal

What to bring: Food, Cutlery, Plates, Napkins, blankets, table/chairs (optional)

I've been to a few of these in the past and they are a lot of fun. As you can see, the range of outfits allowed is pretty impressive so I know everyone pretty much already has something they can wear. Food really can be anything to share -from cookies to fried chicken to whatever you happen to feel like to bring.

Marie Antoinette Tea

So my local tea house is having a Marie Antionette Tea, compleat with a coustumed reenactor.  I figure, good or bad, it should be entertaining, and give us another excuse to wear 18th cent.  And afterwards, I could have people back over at my house for lawn games and some more food.  Here is the info from the website:

Saturday, July 23 at 12noon

Eliza Blackwell Dupree, an American diplomat's wife who was in France to help Ben Franklin raise French support for the American revolution, served as Marie Antoinette's lady-in-waiting, and will be Marie's representative today.

Describing her life as an Austrian princess, how she came to France, her life as the Dauphine, her children, the myths that surround her (she never said, "let them eat cake"), her terrible end and that of her children. Wearing a stunning blue and pink dress, she shows and describes the undergarments. Just wait ' til you see!

A truly fascinating tea and show!

This special tea is recommended for adults and children age 12 and older.

$36.00 per person includes tax, gratuity, and entertainment.
A deposit is required to reserve.

Ft. Frederick

Hi All,

It's that wonderful time of year again!  The friends of Ft. Frederick will be hosting the annual market fair April 28-May 1.  Is anyone interested in going on Saturday or Sunday?  I'm probably going as a 'muggle' this year since none of my 18th century stuff is fitting right now, but I'd love to see you all.
